JEAN-CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC

I RECOGNIZE CASTELBAJAC'S WORK IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY (HE'S KNOWN FOR HIS ECCENTRIC STYLE, SOME OF U MAY REMEMBER KATY PERRY WEARING HIS YELLOW OBAMA DRESS @ THE MTV EUROPE AWARDS) BUT I LIKE WHAT HE'S DOING HERE...

KIND OF POSES THE QUESTION OF WHAT PEOPLE VALUE OR RESERVE PRAISE FOR MORE? ART OR CONSUMERISM?
HMMM, I THINK THERE ARE SOME SITUATIONS THAT INCLUDE BOTH CATEGORIES I.E., FASHION. LOUIS VUITTON, GUCCI OR YSL, ETC. REPRESENT BOTH SIDES BY BEING HIGH PROFILE, WIDELY RECOGNIZED, FASHION BRANDS BUT THERE'S ALSO AN UNDERLYING ARTISTIC INTENT BEHIND THE CLOTHES AND ACCESSORIES THEY CREATE. AS A MATTER OF FACT, I THINK THE FASHION INDUSTRY DOES A GREAT JOB OF NOT SELLING OUT FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF GIVING THE CONSUMER WHAT THEY WANT. THERE'S STILL ONE INDUSTRY THAT CREATES THE TRENDS NOT FOR CONVENIENCE OR ANTICIPATING THE CONSUMERS DESIRE BUT FOR ARTISTIC VALUE... FOR THE SAKE OF STYLE AND ART AND LIFE! IT JUST SUCKS THAT THE LINES WHICH FOLLOW THIS MODUS OPERANDI ARE ONES WHICH MOST CONSUMERS CANNOT AFFORD...

WHEN WILL WE REALIZE THAT IF OUR INTENTION IS ONLY TO CREATE SOMETHING BASED ON WHAT IT WILL YIELD FINANCIALLY, WE WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL? GAME RECOGNIZE GAME AND MOST OF THE PUBLIC RECOGNIZES WHEN IT'S BEING SWINDLED OR HOODWINKED! DON'T TRICK US. DO SOMETHING FRESH CUZ YOU BELIEVE ITS FRESH AND SOMEBODY ELSE WILL BELIEVE IT TOO!

Check this out!

The realistic and comparative styles of artist Kehinde Wiley will see itself presented in Los Angeles this Saturday. The “World Stage” show focuses on residents of Rio de Janerio in Brazil. Away from any glitz and glamour, Willey appropriates the residents in an interesting light as the personalities are seen on some unconventional backdrops away from the usual slums and shanty-towns. The locally sourced floral and textile backgrounds offer a nice juxtaposition in both representation and color. Some special hand-carved frames surround each painting which feature engraved images of birds and flowers. The April 4th show takes place at the ROBERTS AND TILTON Gallery.

My trip to Honor Fraser for the KAWS exhibit was awesome!

Yo... I was taken aback by his attention to detail! I can't wait to cop some of his pieces for my future pad! I should've made it to the opening so I could've bought some prints for my apt, they're fresh out now :( Anyway, it was so much fun. I encourage you to drop by before its gone!

Whattya know?

She's a gal after my own heart, my kindred spirit! If I was an artist out, I'd be the Black, more hip-hop version of her. And while I can't fully get into the album I think she's fresh and innovative. And, I like her even more now that I know she can hit some notes!
